AMERICAN STUDIES/AP AMERICAN STUDIES

This interdisciplinary course will involve project-based learning focused on American History and American Literature at the college level.  Students will be expected to perform at the college level with success particularly in the areas of writing, reading for analysis,

synthesis of ideas, and content understanding. The course focuses on the time periods from the development of the New World up to and including current events, with shared focus on the political, economic, cultural, and literary events of each time period as viewed through the themes DeKalb New Tech.  Successful completion of this course will fulfill the junior US History and English 11 requirements. Another version of this class will be offered as an AP opportunity. Students taking the AP version of this course will be required to take the College Board AP exam at the conclusion of the course with the possibility of earning college credit.

  • A four credit course (2 credits US History/2 credits English 11)
  • Fulfills the US History requirement and the English 11 requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas.
  • If this class is taken at the Advanced Placement level, the course will be weighted 2 points if a grade of C or better earned and AP exam taken.

ALGEBRA II

In this course students will use advanced Algebra concepts to solve real world problems. The following are the areas that will be covered:  

  • Polynomial, Rational, and Radical Relationships
  • Trigonometric Functions
  • Modeling with Functions
  • Inferences and Conclusions from Data

We will be making advanced Algebra applicable to the world around us through both problem-based and project-based learning.

  • Recommended Prerequisite: Algebra I and Geometry
  • A two credit course
  • Fulfills Algebra II requirement for the Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, and Core 40 with Technical Honors and counts as a math course for the general diploma.
