DeKalb New Tech Senior Capstone
Capstone Project: “Also called a capstone experience, culminating project, or senior exhibition, among many other terms, a capstone project is a multifaceted assignment that serves as a culminating academic and intellectual experience for students, typically during their final year of high school...or at the end of an academic program or learning-pathway experience”

The senior capstone is an opportunity for a senior student to use his/her strengths, explore an interest, and meet a community need while demonstrating mastery of high school content and the DeKalb New Tech School Wide Learning Outcomes. This project will be an exciting challenge and learning stretch for our seniors as they enter into the world of adulthood. The DNT facilitators and administrators will support and encourage each project, but ultimately, this needs to be something that the student creates and executes.

- Genuine contribution to our community (school, town, city, county, state, etc.)
- Personally relevant and challenging
- Involved and supportive mentor
- Senior Portfolio
- Oral presentation
Benchmark One: (Finished in the Fall Semester)
Research, team project proposal, mentor selection, critical friends, and project approval
Benchmark Two:
Identify and execute next steps, more research, planning, critical friends
Benchmark Three: (Finished prior to Spring Break)
Execution and reflection
Culminating Event: (In Late April/Early May)
Oral presentation to student-selected panel
This is a chance for each senior to give back to the community that has invested in his/her education.
Driving Question: How will you make this place better? And how will you #BeTheReason?
