Overview

Consumer Communications pairs the Introduction to Business, Personal Financial Responsibility, and English 9 courses. Through the completion of projects, students will develop their English, reading, and writing skills while also building a financial understanding. The objective of this class is to pair the English, Business, and Personal Finance standards to give students the skills necessary to succeed in a postsecondary learning environment and be financially literate members of society.

  • A four credit course (2 English 9 / 2 Business: Intro to Business & Personal Financial Responsibility)
  • Fulfills an English/Language Arts requirement and two Business Electives for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors Diplomas
  • This course may be taken at the Honors level - Recommended students have NWEA Reading above 230 and 8th grade Language Arts grade B or above

GEOMETRY

This course is currently taught as a stand-alone course in which students examine the relationships among shapes, lines, and angles found in real life objects. Students learn to use the skill of loci to solve problems and to justify their thoughts and solutions. The following areas will be covered:

  • Points, Planes, and Lines
  • Angles, Shapes, and Figures
  • Constructions
  • Degree Measure and Arch Length

The discovery of Geometry will be made through problem-based and project-based learning.

  • A two credit course
  • Fulfills the Geometry requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, and Core 40 with Technical honors diplomas


WORLD BIO

Using headlines from past, present, and the scientifically possible future, WORLD-BIO explores the tragedies, triumphs, challenges, and discoveries that have formed our history and will impact our future.

Students will complete relevant and innovative projects utilizing standards based biology and world history content. Communication, technology, and inquiry skills will be emphasized.

  • A four credit course (2 credits Biology / 2 credits World Geography and History of the World)
  • Fulfills Social Studies and Biology requirement for the Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, or Core 40 with Technical Honors Diplomas
  • This course may be taken at the Honors level – Recommended students have NWEA Rdg 230 or above and NWEA Math 240 or above and 8th grade Science grade B or above
