The last week of January was an exciting week for DeKalb New Tech as we served as a host school for future directors that are starting their own New Tech schools soon. Each new director must go through an orientation which includes visiting a first year and a fourth year New Tech school. DeKalb New Tech proudly hosted as the first year school.
Our visitors made a long trip to come see our school, traveling from Arkansas, South Carolina and California. The visit was led by School Development Coach Jim May, from New Tech Network. The future directors spent time learning about ideas to implement in their own New Tech, how our New Tech is ran, curricula ideas and how to overcome common struggles of a first year school. They met and collaborated with DeKalb New Tech facilitators; met with and interviewed students and observed New Tech classes in action. They were here for two days and spent the rest of the week visiting Wayne Tech, the chosen fourth year host school.
In March we will host another group, with 50-60 future New Tech staff visiting our school. We are very excited to be a part of expanding New Tech all over the country!
