Overview

ALGEBRA II

This course is currently taught as a stand-alone course which we will use advanced Algebra concepts to solve real world problems. The following are the areas that will be covered:

  • Polynomial, Rational, and Radical Relationships
  • Trigonometric Functions
  • Modeling with Functions
  • Inferences and Conclusions from Data

We will be making advanced Algebra applicable to the world around us through both problem-based and project-based learning.

  • Recommended Prerequisite: Algebra 1
  • A two credit course
  • Fulfills Algebra II requirement for the Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, and Core 40 with Technical Honors and counts as a math course for the general diploma

GEOMETRY

This course is currently taught as a stand-alone course in which students examine the relationships among shapes, lines, and angles found in real life objects. Students learn to use the skill of loci to solve problems and to justify their thoughts and solutions. The following areas will be covered:

  • Points, Planes, and Lines
  • Angles, Shapes, and Figures
  • Constructions
  • Degree Measure and Arch Length

The discovery of Geometry will be made through problem-based and project-based learning.

- Fulfills the Geometry requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors, and Core 40 with Technical honors diplomas


MEDIA LIT

Media Lit is the study and application of the basic principles and techniques of effective oral and written communication based on the Indiana Academic Standards for English 10, Mass Media, and Speech. Students in Media Lit engage in learning experiences that encompass conventional and modern literature and writing.  Media Lit includes a study of the impact of constant and immediate news, entertainment, and persuasive messages on everyday life. Students use course content to become knowledgeable consumers of literature, social media, and mass media in preparation for their roles as informed citizens in a democratic society. Students utilize numerous ways to demonstrate and defend their understanding of content which may include informational essays, argumentative compositions, blogging, oral presentations, podcasting, and multimedia presentations.  


  • A four credit course (2 credits English 10/1 credit Speech I/1 credit Mass Media)  
  • This course may be taken at the Honors level – Recommended students have a grade of B or above in English 9  
  • Fulfills an English/Language Arts requirement and electives for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas.
 

MODERN CHEMISTRY

In Modern Chemistry, students will explore the applications of chemistry in the industries that supply us, sustain us, and employ us. Students will learn the standards of chemistry through relevant, real-word projects about nonrenewable and renewable resources, chemical reactions, the chemistry of food, behavior of gases, and cutting-edge technology.  The projects completed during this course will enable students to continue to develop communication and critical thinking skills through inquiry, the use of technology, and the investigation of innovative content.

  • A 2 credit Chemistry course
  • This course may be taken at the Honors level – Recommended students have a grade of B or above in Biology  
  • Fulfills a Science requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma


INTEGRATED CHEMISTRY-PHYSICS

In Integrated Chemistry-Physics, students will explore basic concepts of chemistry and physics. Students will learn the standards through motion and energy of macroscopic objects, chemical, electrical, mechanical and nuclear energy, properties of matter, transport of energy; magnetism, energy production and its relationship to the environment and economy. The projects completed during this course will enable students to continue to develop communication and critical thinking skills through inquiry, the use of technology, and the investigation of innovative content.

  • A 2 credit Integrated Chemistry-Physics course
  • Fulfills a Science requirement for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas
